Buccal mucosal graft Urethroplasty

Buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty is a specialized surgical procedure used to treat urethral strictures, which are narrowings of the urethra that impede the flow of urine and cause various urinary symptoms. In this procedure, a graft is harvested from the buccal mucosa, the inner lining of the patient's cheek, and used to reconstruct the narrowed segment of the urethra.

The surgery begins with the extraction of a patch of buccal mucosa from the inside of the cheek. This graft, which is well-suited for urethral reconstruction due to its robust blood supply and compatibility with the urethral tissue, is then meticulously shaped and sutured into place at the site of the stricture after the scarred section has been excised. The buccal mucosa’s properties facilitate excellent integration and healing when grafted into the urethra.
