TURBT

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is a surgical procedure used primarily for diagnosing and treating early-stage bladder cancer. During TURBT, a thin, flexible instrument called a cystoscope is inserted through the urethra into the bladder. This allows the surgeon to visualize the bladder lining and carefully remove suspicious tumors or abnormal tissues using specialized tools attached to the cystoscope.

TURBT serves multiple purposes in the management of bladder cancer. Firstly, it provides a precise biopsy of the tumor, allowing for accurate diagnosis and staging of the cancerous tissue. Secondly, it is often used as a therapeutic procedure to remove small tumors or lesions from the bladder lining. In cases where the tumor is larger or more invasive, additional treatments such as chemotherapy or immunotherapy may be recommended following TURBT to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence or progression.
