Cystolithotrity

Cystolithotrity is a procedure used to treat bladder stones, also known as cystoliths, through a minimally invasive approach. It involves inserting a cystoscopeโ€”a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light sourceโ€”through the urethra and into the bladder where the stones are located. Once the stones are visualized, specialized instruments, including a laser fiber or mechanical lithotripter, are used to fragment the stones into smaller pieces. These fragments are then either removed with a basket-like device or flushed out naturally through urination. Cystolithotrity is preferred for its minimal invasiveness and reduced recovery times compared to traditional open surgery. It is typically performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the patient's comfort and the complexity of the procedure. Post-operatively, patients may experience temporary urinary discomfort or minor bleeding, which generally resolves quickly. Overall, cystolithotrity is highly effective in treating bladder stones, offering patients a safe and efficient way to achieve stone clearance and alleviate associated symptoms.
