TURP

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a surgical procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). During a TURP procedure, a surgeon uses a resectoscope inserted through the urethra to remove portions of the prostate gland that are causing obstruction to urine flow. This minimally invasive technique is considered the gold standard for relieving symptoms such as urinary hesitancy, frequent urination, and incomplete bladder emptying caused by an enlarged prostate. TURP typically results in significant improvement in urine flow and quality of life for men suffering from BPH. However, like any surgical procedure, TURP carries risks, including bleeding, infection, and possible long-term effects on sexual function.
